Košice International School has been officially authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to deliver the IB Diploma Programme — completing the full IB Continuum and making KEIS the only school east of Bratislava where a child can learn from kindergarten all the way to graduation, without ever changing schools.
With this authorisation, KEIS becomes the only school east of the Slovak capital to offer the complete IB Continuum: the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, and now the IB Diploma Programme, all under one roof. A child can enrol with us at age three and graduate at nineteen with an internationally recognised diploma — having never needed to change schools, change systems, or start over.
One school. One consistent approach to learning. All the way through.
What the IB Diploma means
The IB Diploma is not simply a final exam. It is a two-year programme that develops independent thinking, research skills, and intellectual breadth across six subject groups — alongside the core elements of Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and the Creativity, Activity, Service programme. Universities worldwide not only accept the IB Diploma — many actively seek it out.
For students who have grown up in the IB framework at KEIS, the transition into the Diploma Programme is natural. They already know how to think across disciplines, how to approach open-ended questions, and how to take ownership of their learning. The DP is the culmination of a journey that began in the Primary Years Programme — not a sudden change of direction.
Preparing for authorisation
IB authorisation is the result of a thorough process during which every dimension of the school — curriculum design, teaching practice, assessment, student support, and physical environment — is evaluated against the IBO’s international standards.
As part of our preparation, we did not only design the Diploma Programme from the ground up. We also made a series of significant investments in the school itself:
These were not box-ticking exercises. They reflect our belief that a school asking families to trust it with their children’s most important years must be prepared to invest accordingly.
The only place in Eastern Slovakia
Families in Košice and the surrounding region now have access to something that, until now, simply did not exist here: a single school where a child can receive a continuous, internationally recognised education from their first day in kindergarten to the moment they hold an IB Diploma in their hands.
No change of school. No change of system. No unnecessary stress at the most critical point in a young person’s academic life.
